The shell decides most of what you get. Wool and down buy you real warmth for real money, while polyurethane and other faux leathers buy you the look at a fraction of the price and none of the breathability. Check the stated length before anything else, since a knee-length and a 48 inch maxi in the same style wear nothing alike, and check the care line, because a spot-clean-only coat carries a dry cleaning bill you should price in.
