The cheapest sunrise alarm clocks that are actually good (updated August 2026)

A sunrise alarm clock has one job: brighten gradually before your alarm goes off instead of blasting you awake in the dark. That job does not actually cost much to do. The cheapest clock we track ramps from 10 percent to 100 percent brightness over an adjustable 10 to 60 minutes, which is the whole mechanism, and it costs $34.99.
What more money buys is not a better sunrise so much as better everything else: sturdier build, longer and finer ramp control, warmer light color, a battery backup so a power cut does not silently cancel your alarm, and in one case a three-year warranty. Whether any of that is worth four times the price is a real question and we will lay out both sides.
One thing to watch for at the top of this category is the recurring fee. Some premium sunrise clocks put their larger sound and content libraries behind a subscription. That does not make them bad, but it does mean the price on the box is not the price, and we will say so wherever it applies. Every price below was read from the retailer's own page on the date shown.

The JALL is the least you can spend and still get a real sunrise ramp rather than a lamp on a timer. JALL publishes a 10 percent to 100 percent brightness climb adjustable from 10 to 60 minutes, dual alarms with daily, weekday and weekend options, and an auto shutoff that kills the sounds after 30 minutes and the lights after 60.
It also doubles as a sound machine, with 25 sounds covering white noise, pink noise and nature tracks, plus 17 nightlight modes and a 5W Bluetooth speaker. If you were about to buy a cheap sound machine as well, that is worth counting. The limitation to know about is that it is AC only with no battery, so a power cut takes the alarm with it. It was $34.99 on JALL's site on August 26, 2026.
Skip it if: a glowing display keeps you awake, since owners report the screen stays visible even on its lowest setting.

2. iHome iBT32 Sunrise Alarm Clock
Nine dollars more buys the thing the JALL is missing. iHome includes its SureAlarm battery backup, so the clock keeps your alarm through a power cut rather than quietly resetting overnight. For anyone with a train to catch, that is the difference that matters, and it is the reason we would spend the extra here rather than anywhere else in this price band.
The rest is a competent clock radio: a gradual pre-alarm brightening, 11 LED color modes, a Bluetooth speaker, FM radio with a wake-to-radio option, a 5W USB charging port and a universal 100 to 240V adapter. It has fewer sounds than the JALL and no white noise library to speak of. iHome had it at $43.99 on August 26, 2026, matching the $43.99 we read at Target on August 17, 2026.
Skip it if: you want to buy once, since independent testing put it among the less durable alarm clocks tested.

3. Lumie Bodyclock Shine 300
If you are going to spend properly, this is the version of the category with no recurring fee attached. Lumie publishes a sunrise and sunset duration adjustable from 15 to 90 minutes in 5-minute steps, which is far finer control than the budget clocks offer, and a light that blends warm white, orange and red LEDs so the color shifts through the ramp rather than just getting brighter.
There are 15 wake and sleep sounds plus FM radio, a tap snooze, and Lumie backs it with a 3-year warranty and a 45-day trial. Note what is deliberately absent: no Bluetooth, no aux input, no app and nothing to subscribe to. The $169 we read on Lumie's site on August 17, 2026 is the entire cost of owning it, which is not true of every clock at this price.
Skip it if: you are shopping purely on price, since it costs several times the budget clocks here and gives you no app or Bluetooth for the difference.

Do expensive sunrise clocks wake you better than cheap ones?
The mechanism is the same: light that increases gradually before the alarm. What the money buys is finer ramp control, warmer light color through the transition, a battery backup, better build and a longer warranty. Whether those change how you wake up is a separate question from whether the sunrise works.
Why does battery backup matter on an alarm clock?
Because a mains-only clock loses its alarm in a power cut and gives you no warning that it did. The iHome iBT32 includes battery backup at $43.99 and the JALL does not at $34.99, which is the single clearest reason to spend the extra nine dollars.
